  1. Are you saying that the U.S. should be dropping artillery or Georgia? The country of Georgia is not the backyard of the U.S. We still have to worry about Iraq, Afghanistan, and possibly Iran. Many of our soldiers are going on their fourth tour of duty. Our military is overstretched and exhausted; we do not need to get into another military conflict. I don't know where you are from, I'm just assuming that you're American.

  2. You want to drop artillery directly on Russian troops? Are you crazy?  That could start World War III. Can you imagine if Russia dropped artillery directly on our troops in Afghanistan - the implications of that?  We're having a hard enough time just fight the insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan - it would be devastating to go to war with Russia.

As much as Georgia is our friend, we have to also be interested in self-preservation. Cuba was our friend, too, before Castro, but we never invaded it once the Russians took a lock hold. And Cuba's only a few miles off our shores.

  3. Sending arms won't help at this point. The Georgian military is all but destroyed. The Russians did this well. You can only fight and retreat for so long before you break ranks, go home, and take your family to safer places.

Using military against the Russians isn't a good idea right now. It wouldn't get approval from the international community and may lead to worse repercussions for us than Russia's actions will lead to for it.

  4. Are you confused? Georgia is not in our backyard nor are the pipelines there owned by US corporations. Both the oil and pipelines are owned by Europeans for the most part. BP owns 25% of one of them and Iran and Turkey have 10% each. Otherwise they are owned by Norway, France Italy & Russia. Georgia gets paid in oil to allow them to be on their soil - about 800,000 barrels per year which takes care of about 60% of their needs. The rest they acn purchase at a reduced price.

The Russians have had a peacekeeping mission there to protect the South Ossetians since 1992 which is sanctioned under the OSCE observation. (OSCE- Organization for Security and Cooperation for Europe)

After Georgia attacked South Ossetia, on August 7th, the Russians asked the UN for an EMERGENCY session to protect their citizens. The president of Georgia declared a ceasefire on August 8th and then attacked the South Ossetians capital city, Tskhinvili, the next morning. They breached their 1992 treaty to do so and killed about 1600 Ossetians and about 30 Russian peace keepers.

On August 9th, the Russians rolled in from across the border (North Ossetia) and kicked the Georgians back across the Ossetian border.

Please check up on everything I just wrote...There are a heck of a lot of journalists who had flown in after the Georgians attacked and before the Russians kicked them out.

Did you know both US and Israeli commandos were there? The Russians went around and systematically destroyed the weapons recently supplied by the Israelis and the US tax-payers to the Georgians. For some reason they don't like it on their border.

  5. THE U.S. NEEDS TO KEEP IT'S NOSE IN IT'S OEN GODDAM BUSINESS... and no i don't think sending arms will help it will only escalate the tension between russia the u.s. and georgia
