I think that is more than enough time to at least starting to adapt by learning our language.

  1. Only if other country where Americans are living over seas deport the Americans who can not speak the language of the country they are in.

We have a double standard...one for "them" and another for "us".  We don't learn the languages of the counties we visit but expect others to learn ours.  We expect them to patient with us when we go to Germany, France, Spain and don't know those languages but we are not patient with them when they come here and don't know ours.

How arrogant and narrow mindedd.  We're making enemies faster than we can kill them.

  2. They should be required to learn English and learn how to drive before they get their green card.

  3. Ah, look at all the politically correct people.  And tell me, what's happening in Quebec and Belgium right now?  Yes, deport them if they can't speak English.  Make a law, have a test.

  4. there are americans, british, australian, south africans who have been living in dubai for over 15 years and can only say hello in arabic, what should they do with them you think?

  5. Maybe they should consider citizenship after that long...

  6. The Constitution and Bill of Rights say "No".

Besides, who are you going to "deport"?   Nobody, that's who!

  7. Yes, or 4 milliseconds for that matter.  As to Americans in other nations if they are not legally in the nation deport them.

  8. As far as I know, the Hispanics are probably the worst when it comes to adapting the English language in this country.

Three nights ago, I was driving on the street of Manhattan where there is a high density of  Hispanic people.  This woman was sitting in a van with half of the front sticking out in the middle of the lane.  I kept honking and gesturing because I couldn't move around her with the heavy traffic behind me.  I had to sit there for a long time and she just wasn't moving. When I finally was able to squeeze past her, she was yelling angrily all in Spanish.....

Imagine if there was an accident of something like that..

I know for a fact that these people don't even want to bother to learn our language,

  9. One of the requirements for immigrants should be to demonstrate a capability of speaking the common language of the country someone is moving to...no matter which one it is.

If someone has been somewhere for 4 years and hasn't even started to learn the common language, they obviously have no intention of communicating with the citizens. Why move there?? Go HOME!!!!

  10. Then get in line. It is " anyone WHO cannot speak English".

  11. There's going to be a lot of people deported in L.A.'s China Town!

How about you work the job that's keeping them from learning English long enough until they learn the language. It's not that they don't want to learn, it's the fact that they are being worked 14hrs/day. Lets see you try that, and learn another language at the same time!

  12. I agree. 4 years is enough time to learn the english dialect, and for those who don't or won't wan't to learn it should be deported. and your right.. they think by just being here they should just congregate with their own and not socialize with us americans like this is their country. Well.. they better wake up and start realizing that their not the only one's here. Either learn it or deport it.

  13. No, one of your constitutional rights is freedom of speech. It would be un-american to strip away our rights just because it offends someone else.

  14. NO, NO, NO

It does take a little while to learn a language. My native language is English and I am learning to speak Spanish after so many years, its very difficult. You dont learn a language overnight. It takes years of practice.

  15. Good idea !

Begin with the yanks. Tell them that if they don't use english, instead of their horrible dialect, they will be deported

  16. Lets just start with those here illegally.

  17. Yes. At least the basics. I remember when my wife took the citizenship exam. They asked her to write "I drive a blue car to work." Or something like that. My wife graduated University in ___________ came to the US and graduated from ________________University so we though it quit funny.  But something this simple should be learned in 4 years!

  18. Mo T hit the nail on the head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o))))

and you seemed not to like his answer.... so its ok for American's to live in Arabic countries (and others) and not speak a word of Arabic but if someone in the US doesn't speak english its wrong...give me a break. You try learning a second language...

  19. I agree; if you don't speak the language after that time you're either lazy or up to something sinister, neither of which we need.

  20. Kick them out. The sooner the better. Whether they speak or not.

  21. Yes

  22. Yes they should be deported.

It shows they have NO DESIRE to assimilate or even communicate with the citizens of the country.

4 years is PLENTY of time to at leat be STARTING to learn our language....
