i am a 25 year old college student and i'm coming up on my final semester. i tapped out on dependent stafford, and this semester my aid counselor says that i will only get 4,300 in aid and i will have to come up with the other 6-7,000 myself eventhough fafsa says that i have 0 estimated family contribution. i thought that i would be eligible for the independent stafford b/c i havent borrowed from that but she says no, whats going on here?

  1. You have an overall aggregate limit, but if you are on your first degree, you shouldn't have depleted all of your funding.  With an EFC of zero, you should also be eligible for Pell, but again, only if this is your first bachelor degree.

There may be some unusual factors in your case, but from a general observation, yes, there should be more funding available to you.
