Was getting worried over a grey welsh mare we bought at an auction from a dealer because she was so determind not to let me on her,she was bought from the dealer as a kiddie pony & he said she had a 5 year old girl take her to shows ect,

Well a couple of days ago i wrote the last owners to see how much she had done,i got a reply today.....

They broke her to the saddle, bridle but had only sat on her back in a STABLE!

No wonder she kept bucking & rearing in that big open space of the field.

I think its quite funny but i could have been badly hurt,at least now i know what im dealing with.

Well that was my laugh for today, anything else funny happen to you guys today?

  1. stupid people. thats not safe at all. what if ended up buying that horse for a real kid? that would have ben bad.

i never had anything too bad from auctions... of course they usually arnt as good as they are said to be but they are all my babies anyway!   :)

  2. ha funny ........dont get it

  3. Being a horse owner for most of my life, I can give you some tips that will help you. The biggest thing that will turn me away from buying a horse is if the seller tells me the horse is kid broke. Red Flag! A horse may let a light weight children on their back, but when you put some weight on it, this tells me a lot more. Never get on a horses back that you haven't seen someone else ride first. A seller will tell you anything to sell you that horse. Never buy a horse just because you think it's pretty. Being pretty doesn't keep you safe. Get info from the previous owner Before you buy the horse. Ask about temprement, habits, biting kicking rearing, etc.

  4. Good thing you can laugh about it..just glad it wasn't bought for "another 5 year old" to show...

No funnies for me today...just glad it's FRIDAY!!  And the weekend is upon me!!  TGIF!!!

    Happy weekend everybody!!

    ******EDIT******

Karen- Thanks!!  I never cease to amaze myself!!

Hope everything at the Croft is good..including the mare with her itchies and sores.

  5. haha that is kinda funny. Well I was helping at horse camp yesterday and my fav. horse wouldn't trot for anybody but me. and when the stable hand was bringing him in yesterday he wouldnt come until i went down to bring him in. I'm sad though because the stable owner is selling him and my family doesnt have the money or space for a horse. :( I'm gona miss him like crazy

  6. does she do well in-hand if no do you have proof they said that the girl took the horse to shows if you said no then yes you can sue them i think, but if you said yes to the first quessie or no to the second then you cant coz they can either deny saying someone took the horse to shows or say they were in-hand shows if the horse leads well this is very annoying as its not lying but its just not telling the whole truth, but if you have proof that he said she's a  kiddie pony i can sue him because just tell the judge what kind of kid could ride an unbroken pony with no tack (which had been broken by the horses wild behavior) i would reccomed unless you know all the tricks of the auction trade not buying from auctions as they often dont tell the whole truth and rip you off. get an experianced horse buyer (who buys from auctions) to come with you next time. you learned from ure mistake and she's very pretty i'm sure. my funny thing is this bitchy s**t who goes to my school was going on about how all the boys were all over her and that her boyfriend adored her too like everyone in my class and then her boyfriend came up to her not knowing what she had been saying and took her aside and dumped her for my best mate. the down side is now her and her bitchy s**t mates have it in for us but the look on her face and the irony was worth it.

  7. It you go back to the auction and inform them that they sold you the pony under false pretences.  What if a child had ridden this horse.

I don't find this amusing at all.

  8. I'm glad you can tell a funny story about the pony!  Now get her broke and going good.

That's part of the problem with buying horses at the auction.  I've run a couple through what used to be the El Monte Auction (Los Angeles, CA) years ago and the owner of the auction used to ALWAYS buy them because I turned them out nicely even though both had soundness issues.  He'd pay nearly the top price for them too!  Then he'd haul 'em up to Industry Hills Equestian Center and resell 'em.

I bought one TB mare from a private owner who kept the mare at a basically western barn.  She was about 16 then and the owner was green, saddled the mare up with a big old Saddle King saddle, put a nice salinas mouthpieced curb in her mouth and said, "She doesn't know much." as she crossed her reins.

I uncrossed the reins, stepped on board and did what I could at a walk because her feet were so long, to see what she knew.  Everything I asked for I got an IMMEDIATE response.  She dropped her head, pivoted on the forehand, reversed on the haunches, backed, etc.  I told her I'd take the mare but before I did, I wanted her to know that the mare'd been somewhere "fancy".  When I tracked her papers down as she was 9 mos in foal, I went to see the 3rd owners back and sure enough, the mare had been a conformation hunter shown at the LA Forum.

It's funny how things turn out.

  9. yah but the person lied about the horse and thats not to cool. that happened to me and the horse bucked my dad off

  10. Well the other day i got a brand new sheet for my horse and i put it on him and i went over to check on him after i put it on him and i laughed but was annoyed at the same time. He had somehow gotten the blanket over his side and stepped on it, he had 3 big holes, one had his right foreleg in it, the other was hanging and dragging on the ground and the other was tought around his hind foot, it was so tight his foot couldn't touch the ground and so he was limping towards me on 3 legs and this destroyed blanket. Lol, i was really annoyed but i just had to laugh at him!

  11. that is EXACTLY what I was talking about in another post about advising a person to be VERY careful about buying so-called "kid" horses from auctions because most of them are not what they appear to be on the surface! My bad experience with one involved a runaway horse and a grove of live oak trees which almost decapitated me.

    We live and we learn!!!

  12. Let me know if you need tips on breaking horses let me know I fully broke at least 6 horses and now they are competing in national shows and winning. Also if a horse rears I have a good tip to help you let me know!

  13. ha... don't get it
