Cardinal Mahony suggests how the Church can “reframe” the debate on immigration

“We are in a dark moment in our nation's history with regard to immigrants, refugees, and newcomers to our land,” said Cardinal Roger Mahony in an address he delivered July 28 at the National Migration Conference in Washington, D.C. “The failure of comprehensive immigration reform legislation just over a year ago emboldened some of our elected officials to pursue a punitive approach, using enforcement as both an immigration policy and a political tool,” said the cardinal. http://calcatholic.com/news/newsArticlePrintable.aspx?id=817c733c-2797-4b46-80fa-2b543f3f0a97

All these cardinals and bishops are just politicians. They pander to the group they think will fill their pews and hopefully their coffers. But unless the Church is willing to use its riches to pay for all those illegal aliens, its spokesmen should keep their opinions to themselves.

Those who didn’t abide by the laws of a sovereign nation.

Who would Jesus demand money be stolen from, to pay for your upkeep?

  1. Your question is ambigious and vague.  No specifics....

  2. In the america that I love, everyone is free to weigh in on debates and need not pay for the priviledge.  If you want to transform it into a country where some folks are not allowed to voice their opinion, please try to find some other country for your experiment.

  3. Yes it should.

  4. The church is an international organization that should never "respect" the laws of the nation it is in.

    They cannot afford to.

They did that once.  It cost all of us dearly.

    WWII.  Jewish people.

I'm not saying it's the same, (far from it, frankly, as I am against people skipping the felony criminal checks, the checks for dangerous contagious diseases that illegal immigrants skip), but the principle for the CHURCH is the same.

They should follow their conscience, and the United States authorities should follow the law and go get them.

  5. The Catholic Church is so out of touch on so many levels with the rest of the world.  All religions actually should butt out of politics.  What do they know about reality.

  6. Yes, the Cardinal's opinion is one that is  quite unreasonable. He has a right to it, and I wonder if the Catholic church adhers to that opinion. I feel we have waited much too long to realize the cost of the American taxpayer to take care of these people. We can't take care of our own.

  7. Are you proselytizing or asking a question? Seem as if you're trying to do both at the same time - which is logically impossible. So what's your point?

  8. You know, when I became a citizen, I read about something called "freedom of speech", but I have the feeling that that is just propaganda, but is not something that really exists.

Here you can see the example

Ah, somebody mentioned the Jews ! Finally they let their n**i ideas to go out in the open. A little candor at last

  9. They have freedom of speech the same as you do.

    fs

  10. Catholics and Israel are destroying this nation built by christians with their money hungering lawlessness. Getting rid of them would be considered a good start and then ................

Git the rest out of here on a leaking boat.................................. All of em.......................Adam and Steve lovers to.

  11. Cardinal Mahony, really cannot be pointing fingers at people when his own church was caught with s*x offenders. They covered up for them. They lied for them. They relocated many child molesters to other churches without any warning of their behavior- thus the cycle begins again. Cardinal Mahony , should point  out that disobeying God has already cost the church millions of dollars.Money that could helped people ,but instead  it went to pay off s*x scandals and not to the needy or the hungry, but paying out money for the pastors who decided to abuse their position and disobey their oath. Cardinal Mahony,at one time during the huge s*x scandal at his own church was telling the press how background checks would take place, but later  on he re-tracked on that and again he went back to allowing anyone to take care of kids,no papers required.Cardinal Mahony, speaks as if these are legal people when they are not. Illegals have did more than just hop a fence. Many have different names, they lie to police, they use citizens of America their SS#'s. What makes Cardinal Mahony, think these people are some how  above the law. He really should be helping Mexico with the church's money. If they can find millions for s*x scandals, surely they can pray for money to send to disadvantage in Mexico, can't they ?
