Shouth of france trip?

If we go to nice should we stay there and have only day trips to cannes and monaco or plan to stay in each city seperatly?

You didn't tell us how long you plan to be in the South of France so it is kind of hard to answer your question.  So I'll 2 give scenarios.

If you will only be there for something like 2 days I would just stay in Nice the entire time.  You might as well enjoy one place and get to know it with that little time there.  

If you plan to spend a week in Southern France I would definately make side trips.  Nice, Monoco and Cannes are all so close together you could easily stay in one place while you see all three.  If I were you I'd make your base in Nice and plan day trips to the other cities you plan on visiting.  It will be fun just driving along the coast.  Oh! And plan a day to Avignon too if you are going for that length of time.
