  1. Boots and traditionally colored wraps are allowed in equitation and jumper divisions, but not in the hunter ring.

My jumpers all go in Eskadron or T-Boot open front boots and ankle boots for their rear legs at shows. I usually school in polo wraps, and only the horses prone to forging wear bell boots. If you're in the jumper ring, you can pretty much ride in whatever he schools in at home. In the eq ring, the boots should be leather, preferably with fleece lining.

  2. There's a lot of different boots available and all have their own pros and cons and specific uses and variations. But basically -

Bell Boots are worn to protect the heels of the horses forefeet from being trodden on by his own hind feet.

Tendon Boots are used to protect the tendons of the forelegs from being cut into by the hind hooves. They can be open fronted or closed too.

Brushing Boots are for when the horse brushes or knocks his own leg against his opposite leg.

Heel Boots protect the underneath of the horses heel during hard or fast work or when lading from a jump at speed.

Shin Boots protect the front of the cannon bone and are intended to be worn for jumping when the horse might bang his legs on the fences.

Knee Pads worn to protect the knee should the horse fall but aren't secure enough for jumping purposes.

Hock Boots are for traveling as are traveling boots.

Bandages can be worn for support on all four legs but won't offer as much protection as a boot would against knocks. They can also take some time to put on and can come undone if not secured properly.

Hope that was of some help to you so you can judge for yourself what your horse should be wearing.

  3. I normally see bell boots. That's what my riding school owners use when they're doing local showjumping comps also I have seen ALOT of professionals use.

  4. for schooling shows the horse should wear nothing. on high end shows you can get special leather splint boots for show jumping. for just schooling polo wraps, bell boots and/or splint boots should work.

as 4 u, a show jacket show helmet and boots pretty much. (it can vary)

  5. bell boots do not give support- try open- front boots as they are good for the horse's tendons. polo wraps are okay too, but only if they are put on correctly. too lose and they slip, to tight and the can bow tendons (BAD!). if your horse tends to kick his front feet with his back hooves, then yes yes yes to bell boots- but some horses dispise them (aka- my horse). you want a boot with a harder shell if possible, they are better supporters. its like try running a mile in socks or in 80 dollar running shoes. which is better? the shoes no duh. try these:

i use a pair almost identical to them, and they work great. easy care too. i have used their leather counterparts and those also work very well, just have to clean them more often.

you might also try some type of cross-coutry styled boot like woof-wear double lock brushing boots. i love 'em.

get something that fits your well with a molded shape and a little give. you cant really go wrong there.

    hope i helped =)

  6. Your horse doesn't wear polo wraps or bell boots at shows except to school before classes. They're not acceptable, even at schooling shows.

For support, your only option is to use jumping boots, and you can only use those over fences, not on the flat. I prefer leather open-front boots. You don't want anything colorful like SMBs. White and black are the only colors that are acceptable if you're not using leather. Velcro is okay, but not the best (it can look tacky).

  7. If you want the best possible leg support for your horse in shows I would suggest black bell boot and jumping boot on his front legs, and black polos on his hind legs.

I think they're are also extra protective  boots for they're knees and hocks but im not sure what they're called. I think it's a little extreme personally for just everyday shopwing, but if you wanna look it up just search it on google.

    Hope that helped!
