Shower Heads and Low Pressure ?!?!?!?

The water pressure in our apartment in ridiculously low. The water is practically dripping on you while you take a shower. Is is possible to increase the water pressure (to a possibly blasting shower) by changing the shower head only? Or is there anything else I can do to fix the showers?

  1. if the problem is only with the shower and a new head doesn't fix it, the problem may be the shower valve / faucet itself. this is true with a lot of older valves, the rubber parts inside them swell and wear out after years of being exposed to hot water so they have reduced flow. you don't have to replace the whole valve, although that may be the best idea,  just rebuild the insides of it to get the pressure back to the best it was made to have.

  2. Joe the plumber above me said nothing you can do to increase the pressure. I think you can, install a small booster pump to you bath room. It doesn't take much space just 4" by 6" space would do. Google Grundfos pump.

    Try it

  3. Is it low in the whole apartment or just the shower?

Try taking the shower head off and removing the flow regulator. Which, by the way, you will probably also want to remove from any new shower head you get.

My parents have terribly low water pressure. What I did that helped a little was to buy an old shower head. I got it on eBay. I think they weren't so concerned with conserving water way back when, so it doesn't restrict the flow. I'm all for conserving water, but I also like to be able to rinse my hair.

I know how irritating that can be. Good luck.

  4. Yes. There are shower heads designed for low-pressure systems, as well as low-flow heads for water conservation.

Both work by splitting the flow in many very small holes, which greatly increases the pressure. However, with both, this will result in high pressure spray, with a smaller spray radius.

  5. nothing you can do to raise the pressure

you may want to try a low flow shower head

they use less water and that may seemingly increase the pressure

    I hate whimpy showers

the water should be hot enough and hard enough to beat the dirt off you

edit: yes Zack you can install a booster pump but its not their building its an apartment building so therefore they cannot install a booster pump
