Question:

Shower Pump verses Electric Shower?

by  |  earlier

I've just moved into a new house and we have a mixer shower with a shower pump (pump is broken though)

We are therefore deciding on a replacement shower pump or an electric shower.

Can anyone recommend which we should go for?

Thanks

  1. If you already have plenty of hot water in the tank though central heating or whatever it doesn't make much sense to then heat up more cold water with an electric shower. Electric showers are very power hungry too at around 8kW consumption. Power shower pumps use much less electricity.

I'd go for the new pump

  2. Replace the pump - although expensive, you will get a better pump for the price than an electric shower.

It will also be cheaper to run, using already heated hot water rather than heating the water as it runs.

  3. Robert is right a new pump is the best option.  I have just replaced ours with a Salamander pump.  Get a good one they are cheaper at a builders merchants like Travis Perkins.

    All the best

  4. I go with Robert and 203. New pump. Give one of them best answer they were first.

  5. considering all the plumbing is probably already in place, i would go for the new pump. These start at around£100 but can go upto a lot more.

Woul be a 10 minute job to fit it yourself and they can be bought from b&q or wickes (uk)

  6. Go for a new pump it will be much cheaper than having to run a heavy duty cable back to the fuse board and some electric showers are 10kw.

You will get a great shower with a 3 bar pump look at the screwfix website, all your plumbing is set up and ready to go. I have had both types and the pump option wins hands down. good luck
