Question:

Shower lacking constant hot water

The shower in my bathroom upstairs never had brilliant hot water pressure but now it is down to a mere trickle. Every 30 seconds or so hot water goes completely cold (but water pressure improves). Same problem with taps in the bath to which the shower is connected so i don't think it is the shower head. Hot water tap in the sink in the bathroom seems fine. Plumbers I have called have not been very helpful. Do I need to have the whole bath taps/shower replaced?

  1. Is the shower valve a Moen PosiTemp? If so the problem could be back pressure from the shower head causing the spindle in the cartridge to goes wacky. Most of these cartridges are found in shower valves sold in discount hardwarre stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) but some made their way to other outlets. The remedy might be to install a new cartridge from a plumbing supply outlet. They usually carry the newest products. It worked for a customer of mind who had the same problem
