  1. Your pony looks great, just the right type for family pony, I have had several NF's and they are great. Cream jodhs and a show cap would be better turnout. Also a hairnet and a nice scrunchie is neat presentation. Try to find a cavesson noseband, boots are incorrect for showing and don't use a numnah or if you absolutely have to, use a brown or black one. Gloves are also correct. You won't need to wear your body protector but you can if you really want to. The Judge should not mark you down for this.

Work out an individual show that is simple,, such as a figure of eight on both reins in trot and canter.

If you can do trot to halt that would be good and a rein back at the end, to show how calm and obedient your pony is.

That is what judges are looking for, a pony that you could lead a toddler on or put your grandma on.  Keep to the same principles for the veteran class. Enjoy!

  2. i have done family pony (judged and shown).  its a nice class and can be run in numerous different ways which should be indicated on the schedule.  for example some require the horse to be ridden by a child and an adult.  in one class i did all the riders who were showing swapped horses after the first go round which was fun!!!  your clothes are fine and the ponys is fine too - leave off the boots if you're ok to do so and put a noseband on to look smarter.  basically the judge is just looking for a steady, reliable pony who can help all riders, is obedient and looks fun, so make sure he's paying attention, nicely presented and make sure you smile lots!!!!!  good luck

  3. how to place:

be the best one in the class.

groom/bathe the pony the day before, and then groom morning of.

find nice riding clothes/show clothes and make sure their clean.

ride better then anyone else in your class.
