Shredder jammed?

Well, my moron brother was shredding my dads old junk mail, when he decided to stuff a packed envelope with at least 8-10 layers of paper in it. He completely jammed it and it won't reverse or go through. Here is an image: http://i34.tinypic.com/34dfugw.jpg I've tried taking the paper out, got a lot but it still won't run. I'm about to open it up, but I don't want to break anything or have something fall out that's needed. any risk opening it up, or does anyone know of a good way to fix this?

  1. Oops..lol I have done that myself. Unplug the power cord and pull the pieces out one by one.  If they are really jammed in there you may have to use pliers or even the end of a screwdriver to pry some out.  I have fixed mine like this ONCE, but the second time I made the mistake of continually trying to reverse it and make it come out on its own and blew the motor in it... good luck.

  2. Just promise us you wont put your fingers in there. Even if it's not plugged in, those things can be sharp! I tried using a pen to pick out the pieces, but I imagine a screwdriver or tweezers would work better. As one of the other people answered, letting it cool down for a minute couldn't hurt!

    Good luck!

  3. Home shredders are definitely not the best for shredding large stacks!!! If you can get the paper out and its still not working than it's broken:(

  4. Get a shredding service and save yourself the aggravation.

  5. Home shredders are built to handle a small amount of paper and to be replaced often (they get to sell you more shredders)  You need to buy a bigger shredder or plan on a replacement budget.

  6. Trust me on this one...it has overheated. Wait till it totally cools down, all the way and then start it up again.
