Shreyansh Jaiswal ousts Lakshya Sen in third round of Junior National Badminton Championship
India’s Shreyansh Jaiswal powered his way into Boy’s Singles U19 round-of-16 after beating Lakshya Sen in the third round of the 36th Junior National Badminton Championship, on Thursday, February 9, in India.
Shreyansh, who has been positioned at number 10 in Boy’s Singles seeding in the competition, had to work extra hard in beating his lower ranked opponent, Lakshya, who stretched the match to three games.
It was an entertaining rubber-set battle that kept the crowd engaged for 29 minutes. Shreyansh delivered a terrific performance in the deciding game and bagged the match.
The opening set was not that interesting as it was a one-sided fight when Shreyansh did not show any mercy to his rival and set up a wonderful lead at the initial stage. He dictated the pace of rallies and established a remarkable gap until the one-minute interval.
In the concluding half of first game, Shreyansh continued his power play and maintained pressure on Lakshya, who failed to execute his strokes in the right areas and also committed a few unforced mistakes.
On the other hand, Shreyansh did not lose his focus in the game and remained on track without facing any trouble from Lakshya. He took the opening game in an authoritative manner with a difference of 21-11.
In the following set, Lakshya was the first to take an impressive lead as he played different game this time. He managed to put pressure on his higher ranked opponent and remained dominant in the opening half.
After the break, Shreyansh tried to dominate the pace of rallies but lost his control and committed many errors. He lost the second game with a reasonable difference of 18-21.
In the final set, Shreyansh was quicker in taking the bird early and also played positive badminton. He did not made any mistake this time and remained on the driving seat.
The higher ranked Shreyansh forced his challenger to remain in a defensive position throughout the deciding game and took it with a one-sided margin of 21-11.
This entertaining rubber-set clash ended in 29 minutes with a 21-11, 18-21 and 21-11 score on the board.
