Shrimp Cocktail price?

Question

How come shrimp cocktails are so expensive for what they are? It's like $7.99 for 5 big shrimp in a glass with cocktail sauce. I can go to a supermarket or wherever and get a shrimp ring with 24 + shrimp & cocktail sauce for $4.99-$6.99 that taste just as good. I live by the beach so you would think it would be a little cheaper...

No i don't think so cause I live in California and if you go to a beach and buy shrimp it comes out a little more expensive then at the supermarket!

While I agree it is always cheaper to buy your food at the store, a lot of restaurants get colossal shrimp (huuuge) which are harder to find. At the last restaurant I worked at, we charged $4 per shrimp, but they were huge!

You really think the crappy small or medium shrimp from a supermarket tastes as good as the juicy jumbo U10 fresh shrimp that you get at a restaurant? Good for you. Personally, I think you get what you pay for don't mind paying more for quality.

I agree-i live in Florida--and same thing here you will get 6-8 shrimp for about $9.00-give or take---

Well think about it...shrimp coctail in restaurants are typically served in higher end restaurants where first of all, they know they can gouge the people, the people will pay.., its kind of a luxury that they don't get everyday. Then there is the overhead of the restautant..they have to take into account that some costs go into making the shrimp coctail, by even sous chef or line chef means that the cost has to be higher than the supermarket shrimp coctail.

Mainly they just know that they can charge 10 bucks and people will pay it.

I just make it myself anymore it's to expensive anymore eating out and ordering it it's not worth it their loss  I think if they made it more reasonable more people would buy it
