Shrub: Looking for fast growing, evergreen for privacy?

I live in Utah ... I think zone 6.

Looking for a fast growing, hardy evergreen (almost drought resistant -- for the confounded Utah heat!) ... that, most importantly, will provide privacy.

It get some morning sun ... It would be planted on the east side of the house -- with a close neighboring house several feet away.

There are also utility boxes that are located where we want the plant.

Any suggestions? Thanks Much!

  1. I use white cedars. Check with a local nursery if they are good in your area. I found them inexpensive and fast-growing. Mine are blocking a neighbour's storage shed and other junk in his backyard "parking lot" from my view.

  2. Try Yew and over-feed it.  Water daily in growing season.

  3. Italian Cypress

  4. I think Thuja might do well.
