My current insurance won't cover my pregnancy and I just found out that I make too much for medicaid. I have my first Dr's appointment on Monday.. and she told me that it is going to be $265.00 and the least.. Im guessing they'll will send me in for an ultrasound too so theres a ton of money there too. Where can I go to get insurance FAST? At this point, I don't care how much of a premium I'll be paying every month, as long as I don't wind up with that $20k - $30k bill in the end... lol.

  1. Check to see if your state offers a "buy in" program. Many have higher income levels for pregnancy. Pregnancy is many times not covered by insurance. Ask your OB if he/she offers a discounted cash rate. Or you could get your OB / delivery at a teaching hospital. They often have discounts (and I mean DEEP discounts) for cash--or at the very least fees based on a sliding scale.

If at any time your income changes-you should apply for medicaid.

  2. No, private policies aren't interested in exchanging $200 a month now, for $20,000 to $30,000 in six months.

Best bet, get married, and have your husband add you on to his group plan through his employer.  Only bet, rather - that's the only way you'll get someone else to cover this now.
