Shu Cheng, Pan Pan march into quarter-finals of Badminton Asia Championships 2012
The Women’s Doubles team of China Shu Cheng-Pan Pan toppled Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna of Japan and secured their berth in quarter-finals of Badminton Asia Championships on April 19, 2012.
This epic pre quarter-final tussle prolonged to one hour and 25 minutes and both teams snapped each other’s heels throughout three exhausting sets to show final results of 12-21, 21-12 and 15-21.
World Number five female duo Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna took a perfect start in the event but they could not go with same flow in last stages.
On the other hand, inexperienced but spirited Chinese ladies showed strong character against their higher ranked rivals and spoiled their party with staggering performance.
In opening game of the match, Women’s Doubles experts Shu Cheng and Pan Pan played attacking badminton and pushed their opponents on the back foot by clinching first match point.
The Chinese campaigners got in commanding position when they scored eight consecutive points after 2-2 score position and placed a notable margin of 11-3 before the interval.
After mid-game break they kept their challengers busy in just returning their masterly crafted strokes. The Japanese shuttlers tried to rise from the dust by scoring total of 12 points but Shu Cheng-Pan Pan stamped them with 21-12 margin.
However, the story was different in following game as third seeded couple of the tournament Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna proved their worth by storming back into the match.
They established an unassailable lead of 11-3 until the one-minute break and managed to carry this advantage to later part of the game as well. They turned their rival’s plan of straight-set victory into dust by winning crucial match point with 21-12 score
on the board.
This 1-1 match score position brought life back into match and both teams exhibited their prime skills to avoid a woeful exit from the event.
The unseeded Chinese couple Shu Cheng-Pan Pan was leading with 11-8 when the break was announced and after this one-minute break they accelerated their pace and left their challengers far behind with score flashing 21-15 score in their favour.
They will now test their chemistry against Korean duo Hye Won Eom-Ye Na Jang in quarter-final round of the Badminton Asia Championships.
