Shu Cheng and Bao Yixin win Women’s Doubles title at the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix
China’s talented shuttlers, Shu Cheng and Bao Yixin grabbed the Women’s Doubles crown as they stunned Chinese Taipei’s experienced duo of Cheng Wen Hsing and Chien Yu Chin in the final contest of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix, in Canada, on Sunday, July
24.
The un-seeded Chinese pair proved their worth by playing world-class badminton against the World Number Two and top seeds of the Canada Open. Cheng and Yixin remained in wonderful control of the game throughout the match and finished it within two sets by
taking 40 minutes in the court.
In the opening game of this Women’s Doubles final match, the Chinese pair occupied the driving seat right from the start of the opening game by playing with an incredible speed and perfection. The top seeds failed to control the rallies in the start and
remained behind of their spirited challengers on 6-11, at the one-minute interval.
Cheng and Yixin then played aggressive badminton as they missed no opportunity of scoring points at the net and also earned numerous points by hitting powerful smashes in the middle of the court. The Taipei shuttlers failed to match the accuracy and aggression
of their lower ranked rivals. Cheng and Yixin grabbed the opening game with a stunning margin of 21-13, in just 16 minutes.
Wen Hsing and Yu Chin played better badminton in the second set, as they started to pick the bird from the tape of the net to remain in a dominating position. However, the Chinese shuttlers changed their tactics and started to push the bird longer at the
net, which helped them in pushing their opponents on the back foot.
The score remained tight until the game entered into the ending part of the second game, when both pairs reached 21-21. At this crucial stage, Cheng and Yixin worked really well and scored two successive points to win the set by a margin of 23-21. This 40-minute
Women’s Doubles final battle ended with a 21-13 and 23-21 score on the board.
