Shu Wada enthrals Arvind Bhat in first round of Men’s Singles event - US Open Update
Japan’s spirited campaigner Shu Wada registered his mark in Yonex OCBC US Open GPG by hammering Arvind Bhat in the opening round of Men’s Singles event on Monday, July 2, 2012.
This epic tussle was staged in Orange County Badminton Club (OCBC) and both contenders kept the audience intact for 59 minutes.
They pushed each other all the way to three gruelling sets and placed final figures of 10-21, 25-23 and 21-18.
The victorious shuttler displayed commendable fighting spirit and locked the honour by rising in last two sets.
Meanwhile, the high ranked Indian could not live up to his billing and crashed out of the event in a disgraceful manner.
Arvind Bhat, who was also ranked Number 12 in this tournament, took off in perfect manner as he clinched first match point to gain an early advantage.
He exhibited superior badminton skills and gathered five consecutive points after a 3-2 score position. He relished this initial lead and placed a staggering total of 11-6 with great ease.
After one-minute break, Arvind made difference by prevailing in six nonstop rallies. After reading 10-21 margin on the board, the opposing shuttler was unable to raise his game and knelt down.
However, Shu Wada showed elevated craft in second set as he did not repeat previous mistakes and brought the match to the right balance.
Though, he remained at lower end until mid-game break but he rose on his toes in later part of the game.
In first half, the Indian campaigner snatched five valuable points in a row and then doubled the impact by reaching a mountainous total of 11 before the interval.
The Japanese shuttler did not lose his nerves and bounced back in second half of the set. He established a comfortable lead with 18-15 margin.
Both contenders kept on chasing each other until last moment but Shu Wada ended this race with a winning figure of 25-23.
Third set turned consequential as they were standing just one step away either form next round entry or a woeful exit.
Shu Wada registered a favourable result of 21-18 and setup his second round clash with Eric Go of America.
