Shuai Peng breezes past Jill Craybas into 2nd round – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011
Tenth seeded Shuai Peng defeated qualifier Jill Craybas in the opening round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011. On outdoor hard courts of the Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan the players duelled and emerging victorious after just
54 minutes was the Chinese Shuai Peng in straight sets of 6-2, 6-0 on the 27thof September.
The players had contested against each other thrice in their professional career and leading the head-to-head was Peng with a 3-0.
Meeting for the fourth time, Shuai opted to serve first and opened the scoreboard by holding her serve in the first game and by the second she had broken her adversary to take the competitive edge. By holding her serve in the third
game she was now leading with a 3-0.
Although, it was a little late in the match but Craybas tried to make a return in the fourth game by holding her serve and by the end of the fifth game Shuai was still leading with a game and break at 4-1. During the last three
games the players broke each other back-to-back but Shuai had broken one more time than Craybas in the last game to reel off a quick victory of 6-2.
The number ten seeded player took every opportunity to break her opponent and by smashing an ace and minimizing her faults she achieved the opening set.
The second set was also opened by Shuai and she rolled the scoreboard by holding her serve in the very first game. Dominating from the very beginning, she then went on to breaking her adversary in the second game and in the fourth
to take a lead of 4-0.
Bringing her A-game on in the fifth game, she held serve to secure her lead of 5-0 and then broke her opponent for the last time in the sixth game. As Craybas served to remain in the set, she double faulted on her second serve
and Shuai clogged a bagel victory against the American Craybas.
Peng was able to secure a berth in the second round of the event where she will now be facing American Christina McHale.
