Shuai Peng dumps Nudnida Luangnam in round two - Guangzhou Int’l Women's Open 2012
World number 47, Shuai Peng, ended the run of the 250th ranked Thai professional, Nudnida Luangnam, in the second round of the GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women's Open. She rounded off the proceedings in just a fraction over 79 minutes; triumph the rival in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Peng smashed in two aces in the opening set of the match but committed double-fault at the most critical stages of the set that almost cost her breakpoint. However, a fighting turnaround in the game yielded a positive dividend for the seventh seed Chinese. She won 33 points that included two classic winners down the line to bag the breakpoints in the third game and fifth game respectively.
At one stage of the set, scores were levelled at 1-1 but the 26-year-old Chinese didn’t waste long time in trouncing her rival; grabbing a couple of breakpoints on the trot and winning the first phase of the match with a difference of 13 points.
It was a terrible start for the 25-year-old Thai professional who wanted an explosive start to have any chance against the talented and experience Chinese athlete. She needed a comfortable beginning to the second set but the lost of breakpoint in the first game further enhanced her misery.
She had not won once in the last seven games at that time and it was something that needed a rapid change if the Thai professional had any hope of bouncing back into the contest. However, the tables were completely turned upon her when she was denied of a breakpoint in the second game and couldn’t hold serve a breakthrough in the subsequent game after an immense fight. It was 3-0 in the favour of the seventh seed Peng and she wasted little time in extending the lead to 4-0.
Luangnam just managed a single serve hold before dropping another breakpoint in the seventh game of the second set to register even more embarrassing score line than the first set. Shuai Peng advances into the last eight of the tournament and plays against the winner of the contest between Laura Robson and her compatriot Jie Zheng.
