Shuai Peng moves past Melinda Czink into the fourth round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
China’s twentieth seed, Shuai Peng retained her excellent form in the third round match of the 2011 Wimbledon Champions, here on Saturday when she defeated Melina Czink of Ukraine with a 6-2, 7(7)-6(5) score line to assure her
berth at the fourth round of the tournament, being played here at the All England Tennis Club.
Czink started off great and managed to establish her queendom in the opening game, but an ill-judged approach coupled with some Peng’s trademark shots, saw the Ukrainian slip a break behind in the fourth game, letting the Chinese
woman to dictate the terms equally.
The Chinese woman finally began to get a sniff at Czink’s errorless serve as she gained her third break point of the match, making Czink welting under the pressure, when she served out the opener at 5-2.
In the opening set, Peng hit eight winners, three aces and won 65 percent of points behind her first serve. In contrast, Czink wrapped up the set with seven winners and 50 percent of points on her first serve. Peng converted 100
percent of break points en route to the second set in her own style.
But Pride came before a fall and the Chinese No.2 saw her down at 4-5. A series of power-packed first serves gave Czink a break point, taking the match to a breath-taking ending. The joy was short-lived, however, as Peng again
upped her game in the tie-breaker, clinching the match with a thumping forehand winner down the line.
The Chinese No.2 finished off her straight sets victory by scoring a whopping 25 winners and seven aces. Moreover, she gained 67 percent of points behind her first serve, 59 percent of points behind her second serve and a total
of 30 of 64 points on return.
Peng, emerging victorious today, now moves on ahead to face Maria Sharapova of Russia in the fourth round of the tournament. Peng and Sharapova will do the battle for the fourth time in their careers, aiming to reach the quarterfinals
of the Wimbledon championships.
