Shuai Peng successful, Aravane Rezai ousted at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open
Shuai Peng of China knocked out Aravane Rezai of France 6-0, 6-4 on Thursday to make it to the third round at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Tennis Championships in United States.
Peng looked settled and focused right from the start. She completely dominated the first set as she gave the challenger a run for her money. The Chinese tennis-pro broke the serve in the very first game of the match and did not allow the challenger to bounce
back. She went on to win the set in less than 30 minutes of play without losing a single game.
Rezai regrouped herself in the following set. She fought hard and managed to win four games in the set but Peng, who had a firm control on the match, stayed determined and converted one of the match points to complete a deserving win.
Seeded 20th at the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 tournament, Rezai was expecting to achieve better results after her continuous failures on tour lately. She has not been able to move past the second round of any WTA event since the start of this
season.
Shuai Peng, on the other hand, was absolutely delighted on her victory. She dominated her opponent in all aspects of the game and successfully converted the chances in the match. The 25 year old has done consistently well on the tour reaching the semifinals
of Auckland and Hobart and then fourth round appearance at Australian Open. She will be hoping to retain her impressive form in her clash against 11th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia.
In another match Shahar Peer of Israel cruised to a comfortable win 6-2, 6-2 against Spaniard Medina Garrigues to reach the next round in Miami.
Peer started the match positively and broke service in the third game to take the first set 6-2. She continued to pressurize her opponent in the second set as well and smashed forehands and backhands all over the court. The Israeli used the chip shots extremely
well to surprise her opponent. Garrigues in contrast lacked the fire power and was forced to play defensively.
Peer has certainly produced considerable performances over the last few months. She reached the third round at 2011 Australian Open and then continued her fine form at 2011 Dubai Duty Free and 2011 BNP Paribas Open reaching the quarterfinals on both occasions.
Seeded 10th at the tournament, Peer will take on Elena Vesnina of Ukraine in her next match-up.
