  1. I think India should become a permanent member of the UN sercurity council along with other big five: USA,UK,France,Russia and China.

India has a population of more than a billion, her economy and political power has going stronger than ever before,so definately should has a say in International stage. The world now has changed,Western powers no longer control everything,China is in from the begining(creation of the UN),now is the time for India, and perhaf some other big ones too: Germany,Japan,Brazil...,may be they can not get the veto power, but permanent member is a much.

  2. If the powers that be would lobby for India to be a member of the General Assembly then they will encounter strong opposition from China (a member), and Pakistan (not an economic force, but they have tremendous political and [possibly] nuclear force.

The question of whether India "should" be a member is contingent on the current confidence of the present Security Council members (the permanent ones, not the +2).

It's not about fairness in the structure of the Secuirty Council - sadly that has never really been the case, from the beginning when they created the UN in San Francisco. Economic and military powers shoved their "fat" selves around enough to give themselves disproportionate power. As with any operation, money talks. And so it did post-WWII.

How does this relate to your question? Well it's a matter of politics and timing. The current state of affairs in the US economy are a temporary hiccup, if one sees the larger picture.

That means the US, and the EU countries' (specifically France and the UK) ecomonic interests will determine the contingency of India's membership.

Others clamoring for permanent membership are likely Brasil and Argentina or Mexico, Italy and Germany, or South Africa or Egypt. South America and Africa are not represented at all.

A ticket to India may create a sticky situation for current permanent members in relation to their foreign policy and economic contracts with Latin America - a force to which it must reckon.

So that is what i think the situation is. The short of it is that I dont think India will get admission  anytime soon. Too much rangoring exists. Should India be a member of the UN GA? Well is that based on the fact that India's economy is force of worthy recognition, or is it based on the fact that India is now nuclear?

If we screen this question through the lens of fairness, and democratic principles, there may be an entirely different Security Council. The SC does not, has not and will not operate in such a way.

Decisions are arbitrary and political at best. As for an independent opinion, India should be a member, for the mere fact that 1 out of every 6th individual in this world is Indian.

  3. India is a member of the General Assembly of the UN and it is one of the priority beneficiary of many projects.

  4. Why shouldn't they be?  There are members in there now that I feel should not be there.  The United States being one of them.  I would prefer the UN disband, but I realize that's pie in the sky.  In my opinion they cause more trouble than it takes millions (American millions) to keep them up.

I absolutely despise the fact that our troops (not all of course) are under their leadership.  We are Americans first and last, or should be.  We should not allow any other country to have control over us or our troops, nor fight under the authority of the UN.

  5. if you mean a permanent member of the security council...

India will soon be a powerful country and the permanent members of the security council are powerful.

  6. Of course. Why would there be any question about that?

(Edit) India has been a member since the UN began in 1945.

  7. definately....to remove the ultimate power of USA

  8. well, they are and have been since the creation of the United Nations.  I believe, what you mean is, should it be a permanent member of the Security Council..

well, they may not get it yet in the near future but, in the long run, they may.. the wind of change might just blow in their favor..

  9. India IS a member nation,

they have nuclear weapons and the second largest population on earth. with more than a billion people we need to be friends with them as well as China
