Shuhei Nakamoto explains the engine life issue with development of 1000cc - MotoGP News
The Repsol Honda team is struggling to eradicate the problem with the life-time of the engine as HRC boss, Shuhei Nakamoto has stated to the media.
The factory riders, Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner are revving up to test the under development Honda 1000cc machines, making a come-back in 2012.
HRC Boss, Shuhei Nakamoto said, "We have enough power and there were no failures but the engine life target is minimum 2,000kms with the six engine rule but now we are getting only 1,000 km.”
Nakamoto added, "This is the energy we can use so the maximum power is not such a big difference to an 800 but of course more. We are using a different technology for fuel consumption -- the approach is completely different.”
In the opinion of Shuhei, electronics are not that important in the engine life, for which the engineers have to develop a completely new setup from the base. The first shakedown test of Honda 1000cc machine was done by test riders, Tady Okada and Shinichi
Itoh at the Suzuka circuit.
Prior to the development process, the Australian rider with his Spanish team-mate will appear in the fourth round of the 2011 MotoGP season, being held at Le Mans on May 15. After the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, both riders will go to Spain for
their first test of the Honda 1000cc machines on Jerez circuit. It is the first time the Honda factory riders will test the 2012 prototype to debut the test in Europe.
Casey Stoner is looking forward to get his hands on the Honda 1000, as he still does not want to get distracted from it. Stoner is concentrating on the present 800cc championship campaign, with a single victory and a third place finish over in three rounds.
His single victory present in the season was at the Qatar event and after three rounds he is placed in third position with 24 points away from the championship point’s leader Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing. Stoner’s team-mate Dani Pedrosa is one
position above from him, with just four points off from Lorenzo.
