I was wondering what the rated shutter life of a Sony DSC-W80 is? I have taken over 2000 Pictures in 6 month. It used not to make an audible click but now it does... And i fear the shutter might die although i don't know why...

  1. I am guessing that shutter lifespan would be closer to about 50.000.

Is it possible that someone changed the settings? Many cameras give you a few choices re the sounds on the camera, including different shutter noises.

  2. The audible click should be settings controlled--it is just a sound the speaker plays and not really the sound of the shutter itself.  I guess people were so used to hearing their cameras click that the camera companies decided they had to play the sound of a film camera clicking....

Yes, shutter life should be in the tens of thousands of images.  Chances are good that either something else in the phone will break or it will be hopelessly obsolete before the shutter goes out.  As there are no moving parts when taking a picture, there really isn't any manual wear (except maybe with focusing or zooming).
