Shutting down ps3 this way ok?

when the ps3 is on can i just simply turn the switch off it the back of my PS3 to shut it off with or without exiting the game or internet, etc. or is this going to ruin it?

yea you DONT want to do that because if is saving a file or updating then your ps3 files will be corrupted and you might get the yellow light of death :(

WOW...BIG MISTAKE!!WHEN YOU turn of the switch,itz just like reseting your ps3.That means,it deletes your data and it might just ruin your game.My friend accidently did that and when he turned on the ps3,all his data was gone and the CD of the game was stuck.So the only game he could play,is the game that is stuck in his ps3.If your asking what name it is,i think it is ROck Band.

the ONLY time you should do this is when a game has froze ( no harm can be done ) but what you should do is either use your controller to turn it off or go to the main menu, scroll all the way left and click TURN OFF SYSTEM

No, it's not good at all. You can brick it this way. It's not advised to turn off your PC this way either. System must free it's memory, save or stop processing some data properly. If you just flip the switch - you can choke your system. Do it the way I do, first I turn off the system from the controller (or power button on the front panel). When system switches to stand-by mode (red light), I safely flip the switch.

no i did it when i barely got my ps3 luckily then i started reading the manual and it says that that could mess it up so i turn it of by holding the ps button or buy going to the turn of system option i suggest you do to unless you want a broken ps3

First, make sure you're exited from the game and look at near the USB ports of the PS3. Notice an orange and green flashing light? Whenever the orange light is flashing, that means the PS3 is accessing the hard drive, when loading a game, for example.

NEVER turn off your PS3 while that orange light is flashing

no! that will ruin it! this is how i turn mine off.i'm playing a game,i go to the main menu on the game,press PS button on controller,click quit game,go to ps3 menu,turn off ps3 from front,then turn it off from back.do not turn it off from the back first.

when you turn it off from back first that means that yur ps3 goes to 100% on to 0% off.that is really not good for the system

Thats the cut off switch, which menas your Ps3 goes form 100% to 0% power in a flash.

turning it off properly (either tappingthe on button, or holding down the Ps button) gives it tie to shut down, save stuff to the harddrive etc.

just one day dont be surpirised to find the Ps3 either wont turn on or has a corrupted hardrive.

theres a reson the swithc is kept at the back, and its only use if if the Ps3 is off for a long time or your are moving the Ps3 form one palce to another, this requiring hte PS3 to be turned off.
