Shuttlers from 30 nations are set to compete in the New Zealand Open Grand Prix 2011
Shuttlers from 30 nations will compete in the New Zealand Open Grand Prix 2011, which will be held at North Shore Events Centre, New Zealand from March 29 to April 3. Among the participating nations will be, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Norway, Switzerland, Iraq,
Indonesia, Japan, China, Iran, Singapore, Korea, Turkey, Peru, Norway and a few other countries.
All players from these nations will try to earn maximum possible points which will help them achieve a better ranking ahead of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Badminton Championships 2011, which is going to be held on August 8 to 14, at London
England.
The top seed of the event in the category of men’s singles will be Hong Kong’s Yun Ho, who is ranked at no.17 in the rankings of Badminton World Federation. He has a great opportunity to grab the title as there will be no player in his way who has better
world ranking in this event.
Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, who is World no.26 at the moment, will be the second seed in the category of men’s singles. He is no more part of the National Squad of Malaysia and plays as an individual shuttler. Some other lower ranked singles players
from Malaysia will also be there to gain experience of an International event.
Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto will participate in the event as third seed in men’s singles. Sugiarto, who is World no.30, has already grabbed the title in another event, Iran Fajr International Challenge 2011, which was held in February.  He is among the major
contenders for the title of men’s singles. Some junior players from Indonesia will also be there to improve their skills and get expertise from this tournament.
The World no.10, Hong Kong’s Pui Yin Yip will be number one seed in the category of women’s singles. The second seed in women’s category will be Netherland’s Jai Yao who has occupied the 15th place in world rankings.
New Zealand’s Michelle Chan will be the best hope for the hosting country as she has won the women’s singles title in the Estonian International 2011.
