Have you ever known someone who is very shy and guarded in public and in social situations but VERY open sharing their feelings in writing? Why does this happen? Do you find it odd?

  1. it's just their way of expressing themselves. some use words, some socialize, some paint, sing, play music, sculpt, etc.

  2. It's not odd at all...It's rather common for some people, and it's great if they have a gift for writing. It's simply easier for them to express themselves on paper than face to face to  other humans, simply because they feel more comfortable this way.  It's comparable to people who play music and write songs, it's how they get they're feelings out/

  3. I'm actually exactly like that.

i wouldn't say half the things i write here on yahoo answers to another person, face-to-face.

firstly, it's because i'm better able to organize my ideas through written words rather than speaking them. it gives me more time to effectively communicate my ideas, rather than looking like a rambling idiot.

second, it's because i'm a very perceptive and visually-oriented person, so i notice the tiniest changes in someone's body language or facial expression when i'm talking to them. when i see their reactions, i start wondering if the person thinks i'm weird or stupid or both, and it kind of puts a mental halt on the conversation for me.

it used to be alot worse when i was 15-17ish, but i'm 20 now and i'm able to communicate a lot better through speaking. i think it was just a sort of phase that i went through.

  4. I am like this too.  I can actually think about what to say in writing and get it down on paper exactly the way I want it, where as if I'm trying to talk to someone, for some reason my mind goes blank, and I don't know what I'm talking about.

  5. It's just a good way for those who repress their emotions to get them out in a productive way. I know I used to have severe depression when I was younger, and I wouldn't converse with many people, but instead I wrote everything down on paper that I was not able to say out loud for fear of reprisal. I guess it just depends on the person and what they're going through, but no I don't feel it is odd.

  6. I do that.  I guess I find it easier to express my true feelings through my writings.  Even my friends have noticed.  Because I guess Im all happy and bubbly in person but when Im by myself and when Im writing its all so dark and depressing.  Which is how I truely feel.  I just dont want anyone to see that side of me.  I write for me and no one else, so maybe thats why Im so open with it.

  7. I am the same way. People judge you but literature never will. I tell my microsoft word all of my secrets. It knows everything about me; things I would never show to another human being and it will never tell.
