Shy people who succeed in non-shy careers?

Say someone has a job that requires social skills and being in the public eye and the person succeeds in this job and seems to enjoy what they do. But then one day you discover that the person is actually shy outside of their job. For instance, if you see an actress/singer who is really shy when they're not performing. Or if you see a teacher who is really shy when they're not teaching.

What thoughts come to mind? Do you opinions of the person change?

  1. No. their career is where where they feel they can express themself. or in most cases, in order to perform the career they have chosen, they CANT be shy on the job, or they wouldnt be successful. Most people  put on a totally different face at work.

  2. those who can't learn, teach?

  3. I'm shy but I'm a nurse and I have to talk with people about a lot of serious stuff all the time.  You have to perform your job and hopefully do it well.  Why would you think poorly of an actor who was actually shy.  Do you really want someone to be arrogant or flaunt his/her fame/ money?

  4. i think shyness is cute and a sign of modesty. i respect it.

as far as what you described, i respect them when i see that they are shy, it takes more effort to succeed in such careers when you are a naturally shy person.

a loud, outgoing, extrovert can easily get attention just by being loud. not so with shy people, talent and effort is required.

shy people often get held back in life due to shyness.
