Shaylynn Spelman wins Women’s 1500m freestyle crown: Day one – 2011 YMCA Long Course Nationals
Shaylynn Spelman of Me Lyons took home the Women’s 1500m Freestyle crown on day one of the 2011 YMCA Long Course Nationals at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Centre, in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday, July 25.
In the corresponding meet, Shaylynn Spelman snatched the gold medal after she ended her swim in a winning time of 17 minutes and 20.10 seconds. After securing the golden crown in the subsequent race, Spelman was excited with her individual performance in the meet.
In the meantime, India Boland of North Shore took home the silver crown with an impressive time of 17 minutes and 23.80 seconds, while Kaitlyn Ferrara snared the bronze medal with a sterling time of 17 minutes and 31.36 seconds.
Rachel Mulligan of Triangle Area wound up fourth in a time of 17 minutes and 41.12 seconds. Verity Abel of Wilton was placed fifth in time of 17 minutes and 41.23 seconds, whereas, Megan Clemens of Huntington settled sixth in a time of 17 minutes and 44.72 seconds.
Cooper Kearns of Cheshire finished seventh in a time of 17 minutes and 46.31 seconds. Erin Ridge of My Lyons grabbed the eighth spot in 17 minutes and 49.05 seconds, while Morgan Scarth of Wilton earned the ninth place with a time of 17 minutes and 50.18 seconds. The tenth spot went to Shannon Quirk of North Shore, as she touched the finishing wall in a time of 17 minutes and 50.42 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Bradley Wachenfeld of Somerset Hills snared the gold medal in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle final with a sterling time of 16 minutes and 16.53 seconds. While speaking about his individual attempt, Wachenfeld stated that he was pleased with his swim in the event.
On the other hand, Shane McKenzie Shane of Tri Hampton grabbed the silver medal with an impressive time of 16 minutes and 18.67 seconds. Matt O’Donnell of Sarasota took home the bronze medal, as he touched the finishing wall in a substantial time of 16 minutes and 25.51 seconds.
