Question:

Siamese cat questions!?

Hi you guys. Well I have a new baby Siamese cat and I have some questions!

1.) She is very social with my friends and family right now. (she is 6 and a half weeks old.) My friends cat is not social at all though, it just loves the owner and owner only, sometimes not coming out of rooms for days! I am wondering if my cat could possibly turn out like this, I don't want her to...

2.) Play style. It appears my kitten likes to grab onto my curtains, pull herself up to my bed and nibble on my nose when I am sleeping. It is very frustrating, especially when I know I have school in the morning, but I simply pet her and put her down. She kept doing this for about 3 hours when she finally decided to lie down somewhere else. Are all cats like this, will she grow out of this or should I just pay her more attention? (I love her all the time though!)

3.) Bathing. She is a very tiny kitten and was COVERED with fleas when we received her. While I was at work my mom stuck her under the sink (gently and holding her in her hand of course) and washed them off. Is their some other technique we should be using? (I heard cats don't need washing that much, they usually can do it by themselves)

4.) Attention. I am so afraid when I am at school or work that my little kitten will forget who I am! I love her to death already (I am a sucker for animals) and I don't want her to get angry or forget me just because I have things to do! I like hanging out with my friends too, but am I doing anything wrong? I leave lots of toys, food, and water for her+ she uses the litter box!

5.) Dogs. I am new to cats all-together, and it seems this little fellow is just the cutest! Unfortunately, I have 4 dogs (Pomeranians so they are small) and when she gets older I don't want her to be scared to death of them. We brought them down and they sniffed her and gave her kisses but we are afraid to let them even get close to her (she lives downstairs by the way, dogs live upstairs)

In conclusion, I love my little kitten! Is their anything I should know or be doing about Siamese cats that I have not included?

~THANKS

  1. LOL you worry to much darlin, just love her and love her and love her, and go to your vet and get a little pill called CAPSTAR, this will kill fleas within 30 min guaranteed, and is safe for kittens under 12 weeks of age, the vet will know what I am talking about, the pill cost between $2.50 and $5.00 depending on your vet, at my vets it is 2.50, get the fleas off of her quickly, she can become anemic if not treated, dont worry I have 4 siamese cats and they are a bundle of joy

  2. 1.) the answer is in the way you raise your kitten into a cat.Your friend should have had other people play and pet her cat when she was a kitten.

2.)this is a faze the will grow out of it at about 1 -2 years of age.Think of her as a baby, babies and kittens do not care or understand if it upsets you to be waken up.

3.)You need to get her a flea collar and some palmolive dish soap it does wonders for fleas.

4.)Well the attention thing is tricky,If I were you I would praise her and love her talk to her AS SOON as I got home that way everyday she looks forward to seeing you.My kitten chester meets me at our door.lol

5.)I would say keep them under supervision while they are together otherwise keep them separated

good luck and congratulations with your siamese

  3. They remember who you are.

I'd gotten a young 1/2 Siamese kitten from a pet shop (I know, never buy from there) who came with a whopping case of diarhea that didn't clear up.  I'd had him 3 days, then he went in to the vets for an extended stay there so they could monitor his health - he was there 5 days because it was a 4th of July holiday weekend and they were closed longer because of it (this is 17 years ago).  When I went to pick him up he saw me and tried to claw his way out of the vet tech's hands and reach me, he wrapped both paws around my neck and buried his head under my chin, he was that anxious to get out of there.

He knew me after 3 days with us and 5 days alone at the vets.  They'll remember you, don't worry.

  4. Kittens who are under 8 weeks old should be with their mothers. After weaning mom cats teach kittens survival and social skills they need their whole lives. Sometimes kittens who are separated too soon have clawing issues or suckle. That said, it sounds like your kitten is getting along ok. She doesn't need baths unless she gets into something sticky or toxic. She will clean herself. Too many baths will dry her skin. Make sure she gets lots of attention from different people to keep her from being shy. She probably sleeps most of the time you're at school. Glad you love your kitty. Don't forget regular vet care and have her spayed when the vet recommends.
