Sian Whittaker seizes Girls 200m backstroke gold – 2013 GHSF Australian Championships
Sian Whittaker of Surrey Park seized gold medal of the Girls 200m backstroke on first day of the 2013 GHSF Australian Age Swimming Championships in SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Adelaide on Monday, April 8.
The 15-year-old Whittaker experienced strong resistance from her following swimmer in the distant backstroke discipline as she raced her way towards the finishing end for first position.
With her commendable pace, Whittaker showed no leniency to her fellow swimmers as she sprinted her way towards the wall for first position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 12.11 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jessica Unicomb of All Saints, QLD, who stayed nearly five seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 17.33 seconds.
The second fastest swimmer was traced by R Tzenetos of Germany, who was only 0.01 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and hit the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 17.34 seconds.
The third best finisher was followed by Zoe Lysaght of Abbotsleigh, who was only 0.34 seconds slower from her former finisher and settled on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.68 seconds.
Fifth spot of the event was traced by Alexandra Good of Surrey Park, who stayed nearly two seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 19.76 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was secured by Jacque Schafer of Willoughby, who was only two arm strokes behind and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 20.07 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was obtained by Michalak Hokin of Atlantis, who stayed 0.40 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 20.47 seconds.
Hokin was traced by Emi Waddington of Ravenswood, who was almost 0.80 seconds slower and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 21.22 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Whittaker received massive appreciation from the crowd and earned her accolade at the medal ceremony after the race.
