Sibylle Dalacker earns Women’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day two – Zurich International Meet
Sibylle Dalacker of Badischer Schwimmverband earned gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on final day of the 2012 Zurich International Meet in Switzerland on Sunday, February 26.
Dalacker remained slightly ahead of her closest competitor, Ivana Ninkovic and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 33.22 seconds. She was followed by Ninkovic, who remained 0.36 seconds slower from the gold medallist and hit the wall with an effort of 33.58 seconds.
Stephanie Spahn of SC Uster Wallisellen occupied third fastest spot of the event as she ended his swim in a time of 34.11 seconds.
Subsequently, the crowd witnessed an astounding effort of Yannick Kaser of Limmat Sharks Zurich in the Men’s 100m breaststroke. Kaser remained in a permanent lead over his challengers and gained gold medal of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 05.15 seconds.
He stayed 1.23 seconds faster from Fabian Dalacker, who emerged on the medal rostrum for silver medal by concluding his race in a time of 1 minute and 06.38 seconds. The silver medallist remained just 0.07 seconds away from Patrik Schwarzenbach, who stood on the victory stand for bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 06.45 seconds.
Later, Annick van Westendorp of SC Winterthur dictated terms to her opponents in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM). Westendorp was the first swimmer to surface on the finishing wall as she completed her race in a time of 5 minutes and 05.33 seconds.
She was chased by Mia Baric of SC Uster Wallisellen, who was nearly half a body length behind her and ended her sprint in a time of 5 minutes and 06.62 seconds. Baric was chased by Danielle Villars of Limmat Sharks Zurich, who stayed nearly two seconds slower and clocked a time of 5 minutes and 08.39 seconds for bronze medal.
The session ended after the conclusion of all listed events whereas the podium finishers were awarded accolades for their laudable efforts after the session. In addition, the Zurich meet was of utmost importance as it paves the way for the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
