  1. The best place is above Catania..... 3200 meters above you have the Etna. There are organized tours and guides that will take you to the craters. I suggest you go with a guide... seems like ever year a tourist gets lost up there.

  2. for Sicily I think you mean Etna...mmm...it's hard to choose:

etna looks like a mountain and Stromboli is in the middle of the sea... both are active...

take at look at this site on Etna (with webcams, in english) http://www.vulcanoetna.it/en.php

    and this is stromboli: http://www.swisseduc.ch/stromboli/volcan...

  3. Definitely Mt. Etna in Sicily.  At sunrise it is breathtaking.

  4. I would suggest Mount Etna, in Sicily, where , if you are lucky, you'll be able to see lava flowing from one of the youngest volcanos in Italy, and, in the meanwhile, you can enjoy Sicily, its wonderful beaches, good food and landscape. Stromboli is an island, you can go round it ( not really all round it) in a few hours.........up to you.

  5. I would love top tell you that MT Etna is the most spectacular and the only reason why I say that is I lived in Sicily for over 13 years as a American work on the military base in Catania  and  it is called Sigonella which if you where to check is true.

I have also flown in one time when Etna was spewing his ashes all over the Island and the plane almost crashed because the lava dust clogged up the engines of the  plane and seen only twice the lava flowing for the mountain and also their are tours to the mouth of the valcano.
