Question:

Sick Cat. Possible Infection?? Dry heaving.

I took my two cats to get spade about 3 weeks ago to a month ago. Both of their incisions healed fine and never looked infected. One of the cats for about a week or a week and a half has been acting completely fine and then all of the sudden she gets in the floor and starts dry heaving. It looks like she is about to throw up but nothing is ever coming up. She does this numerous times throughout the day. Is it possible she has an infection inside from the surgery?? her incision looks fine, but i didnt know if she could have an infection on the inside making her sick?

a little extra info is that when i got her she was a stray and the vet said she had feline herpes. Her immune system gets really low occassionally and she gets a high fever and sores in her mouth around her gums. I was thinking she might be having an "outbreak" but she has never had this problem with throwing up.

She has been eating just fine and acting fine (maybe a little sluggish) but nothing ever comes up when she starts heaving??? what's the deal?? any ideas why she keeps trying to puke but nothing comes up??

  1. how about hairballs?  that would make them look like they are trying to puke, and they cough and sometimes hack up some slimey stuff but no food......ask your vet, though, and have him listen to your cat to make sure it's not a respiratory thing.  if it's hairballs, they have a paste that you can feed her (and the other cat) to take care of that.

But take it to the vet to be sure.  better safe than sorry.

  2. Sometimes a hairball will do this, but I would take her back to the Vet and let him check her out just in case.

  3. could be from parasites or even a hairball, some cats are just known pukers (I have one that throws up at least once a day and the vet can not find anything wrong) if you are ever in doubt then please call your vet.

try L-Lysene supplement from the pharmacy or health food store for the feline herpes. L - Lysene disrupts the herpes life cycle and gives the cat's own immune system a chance to fight back

  4. Hairballs. My cat used to do this every couple days or so. Pick up some Petromalt.

My cat loves eating it off my fingers, and it makes them digest better.
