Question:

Sick/Depressed Fish?

My fish has not been eating lately. He used to eat normally. If a fish suddenly looses desire to eat and stops acting excited like he normally does, could it mean that he is sick or may die.

He is a yellow fighter fish and his color is beginning to dull. He stopped eating normally about 2 weeks ago.

Thank You in Advance

  1. Definitely sick, what does he live in, is he with other fish, does he have a heater, what temp is his tank, if you don't know, what temp is the rom temp at your house cuz the water will be the same temp.We need more info

Edit:Ok, check your water quality. Is the ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate normal? Even if it is not, I would do a water change. Is thre anything else physicaly wrong with him. It could also be an internal parasite. Try treating him with hex-a-mit.The water temp is fine. Most ppl kep there house at 70 which is to cold for a betta. They like it between 75F and 85F. Your house is a good temp.

  2. I'd check his scales for any discoloration sometimes fungus will cause a fish to stop eating. Also double check the water's pH, nitrates, nitrites ect. If you have a plant like a bamboo in the bowl it may be decaying  and throwing off the balance. Most likely it's the water because you don't have any other fish in there with him. Make sure you use bottled water when you change the water. I'd take a water sample to the pet store if you're not familiar with fish maintenance.
