Sick hamster?

My hamster is 2 1/2 years old. Over the last two days he has become quite lethargic and his abdomen has become distended. It looks like he has peed in the last two days but now it looks like he isn't able and is quite uncomfortable. Is this a symptom of old age? Does anyone have any advice? TIA

  1. You'll have to re-mortgage your house and go to the vet where he will promptly take the p**s....out of the hamster, then you get the bill and he then take it out of you.

  2. YOUR HAMSTER IS VERY VERY OLD.  IT SOUNDS LIKE HE IS GOING TO DIE.  IF YOU THINK THE HAMSTER IS SUFFERING, HAVE IT PUT TO SLEEP BY A VET.

  3. More than likely. If your that concerned about it. Take it to a vet. If it was me.. Well i'd just see what happens. Its the circle of life.

  4. You are going to have to take him to the vet.  If he can't pee, he's probably in a heck of a lot of discomfort which will be why he seems lethargic.  If you're lucky, it will be a simple water infection, and the vet may be able to prescribe some antibiotics which will clear it right up.  Your hamster is a good age though and it may be that this is the end of the road for the poor little chap and the vet may say that it is kinder to put him to sleep, so you may have to prepare yourself for the worst I'm afraid.

  5. If he has difficulty in peeing, it could be a sign of urinary tract infection (UTI). However it is difficult to guess the problem accurately since your hammy is old and abdomen distension could also occur due to constipation and intestinal problems.

Please take him to a vet immediately for opinion and medications.

  6. Prepare yourself for the worst. Thats how mine went.
