I took my 12wk old male kitty to the vets for his second set of immunizations and the vet checked his heart and stated she heard a slight level 1 heart murmur. The kitty plays and acts like a normal kitty, yet she states he may grow out of it. This is the 1st time we have heard of this he has been to this vet 3 x already and they haven't mentioned it. I'm a little skeptical since during the visit she dropped my kitty, Kyle ran to my daughter since she jumped to the floor as the kitty fell. the vet apologized and checked him for injuries thank god there were none. Has anyone heard of a level 1 heart murmur or has a kitty w/ a heart murmur and is the kitty alive and well, how does he or she acts.. Thanks

  1. As long as she is happy and healthy otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. Hopefully, it will improve and she won't have any problems. Here is an article that will give you more information. Good luck!

  2. Usually heart murmurs are nothing, but if you are skeptical then you should see another vet just to make sure. I had a level 3 murmur for about 2 months and it was nothing cuz they did an EKG and an ultrasound and everything was fine. Animals and people get them and usually they are nothing but once again if she starts acting diff. then see a different vet.

  3. Well, if you doubt your vet in any way, shape or form, I would look elsewhere; because when you really need them in the case of an emergency, you don't want to second guess yourself forever if things go wrong.

I have a heart murmur and once in a while I'll get "flutters" in my chest.  No biggie.  Plus if he's active and happy and normal, there should be no problem.  It's genetic and a birth defect as well.  And if someone dropped my cat, I would come up swinging, if you know what I mean.

I rescued a little tuxedo cat who has been kicked (broken collar bone), and thrown and tossed like a rag doll.  Today she is beautiful and very timid.  But she sleeps with me and greets clients.  So being a responsible pet owner - no one touches your cat unless they mean no harm to them.  Good luck.

  4. yea it just means that it has a mild heart murmur...it may grow out of it but if not it can live a full and healthy life...

theres many people that live with heart murmurs...its no big deal unless they are severe

  5. I don't know of a cat with a heart murmur but I do know that animals can have the same illnesses as are found in people.  If you question the vets diagnosis I would suggest getting a second opinion from another vet.
