Siddharth Mallya proud of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s efforts in the current season
Franchise Director of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Siddharth Mallya, is proud of his team’s performance in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and said that his team has answered the critics in the best possible manner.
After a bad start to the season, Royal Challengers have finished at the top of the points table after the league matches, with 19 points after 14 encounters.
Bangalore won their first match of the season but lost their next three on the trot. However, their fortunes were changed with the arrival of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 who went unsold in the auction for this season.
He is holding the Orange Cap of IPL this year although the left hander has played far less matches than any other notable run scorer of the tournament.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 Mallya said that many cricket analysts wrote them off in the initial stages of the league and criticized the management for their poor selection.
Bangalore made drastic changes to their squad this season including the exclusion of some stars like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 is the only player who was retained by the Royal Challengers. Mallya feels that his men have justified
their selection.
Mallya said, "After our first win, we unfortunately lost our three next games. The commentary team wrote us off, the journalists wrote us off, the critics wrote us off. They said we had selected a wrong team. Where is (Rahul) Dravid? Where is (Robin) Uthappa?
they asked."
He added that the Royal Challengers have a strong character as a team now and to come back from a poor situation to lead the points table, is proof of it.
He admired the performances of Gayle in the current season and said that the explosive left handed opener from the Caribbean has been a revelation for Bangalore.
"To bounce back from there, it shows the character of the team. For Chris Gayle to have the orange cap is phenomenal. He has scored over 500 runs in some 11 (actually nine) innings. It is not something that we generally hear in our lifetime," he added.
