Siddikur Rahman learns the lesson of life, ahead of the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship
After an unexpected turn of events, Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh missed the cut at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland, fortnight ago.
This was the first time he failed to make it to the final two rounds in 11 events that he played by that time.
However, he took the thrashing rather positively and is hopeful to display another stunning performance at this week’s Yeangder Tournament Players Championship.
Last week, at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters, he bounced back strongly by taking a share of the third position on the leaderboard. The highlight of his performance included rounds of 66 in each of the final two days of the event.
“I guess that’s what golf teaches you. There’ll be times when your form dips and you fall out of contention. It’s how you get back into the game,” said Siddikur.
“I don’t really want to remember too much about what happened in Switzerland now. The most important thing is that I’m back in form,” continued the Bangladeshi.
“I played very well in Malaysia especially the last two rounds and I had a very good rest before coming over here to Taipei. The greens are going to be hard this week and the key to having a good score lies in your short game,” he added.
Siddikur is no doubt the best player Bangladesh has ever produced. In 2010, he became the first player from the country to record a victory on the Asian Tour. He defeated Jbe' Kruger of South Africa in the playoffs of the 2010 Brunei Open.
This year, the 27-year-old continued his great form on the tour and recorded four top-five finishes in the 12 starts that he has made so far.
At the Panasonic Open India and Queen's Cup, he came close to the second Asian Tour victory of his career. However, he had to settle for the tied second place in both of the tournaments.
This week, he is confident to thrash his competitors and add another title to his resume. The tournament will be played at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club, offering a prize fund of US$ 500,000 to the participants.
