Siddikur Rahman makes it to the WGC – HSBC Champions through a strong finish at the Venetian Macau Open
Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman recorded a strong finish at the Venetian Macau Open and booked his place in next month’s World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions, slated to start from November 1, 2012.
Starting the final round campaign at the Macau Golf & Country Club, Siddikur Rahman was standing at the 10th position in the field.
His start was not an impressive one, as he bogeyed the opening hole. However, he did not give much thought to that and focused on the upcoming holes.
He then bounced back strongly with a couple of birdies in a row, on the second and the third hole. Another birdie on the seventh hole allowed him to reach the turn with a two-under par score.
On the back nine of the course, he maintained his good form and added another four shots against one blemish on his scorecard.
At the end of the round, he had a five-under par final-round score, which was enough to secure the shared third position in the tournament.
Siddikur also pocketed $41,362.50 prize money, which elevated him to the eighth position in the Asian Tour Order or Merit.
As a result, he also qualified for the last of the four WGCs and the only event held outside of the United States.
According to the tournament qualifying policy, the top-eight players from the Asian Tour will receive invitations to participate in the event this year.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that HSBC was on his mind throughout the week. As a result, he also felt some pressure, which he managed to offset by playing well on the course.
“I’m very happy with this round. It was excellent putting and I hit the ball really well. Yesterday, I missed so many putts yesterday,” he said. “The HSBC was on my mind. I struggled a bit earlier this week as I flew in from Scotland and had a bit of jetlag”.
He added, “I really wanted to get in to the HSBC. I was competing with Scott Hend every day. It was really a good fight. My putting wasn’t going in at the start of the round but I came back today. I just persisted”.
