Question:

Side by side refrigerator leaks water from freezer every couple of days...

Started several months ago I`d find water on the floor in front of the freezer. Opened it and found that the bottom floor of freezer compartment was covered in about an inch of ice. Removed ice and after about 2 or 3 months leak started again and ice was back. It is a newer fridge (5 or 6 yrs)... sure it has auto defrost. Is the defrost cycle adjustable? Where does the water that usually melts during the defrost go normally? Is it possible that the defrost water is not going where it should? Need some troubleshooting ideas and-or guidance?

Sorry, lots of questions I guess...Any help would be appreciated..thanks in advance!

  1. my fridge just started doing the same thing.and i just empty the ice machine and it stopped i came home to find a puddle of water coming from under my freezer part of my fridge i have two sides.so i took all the ice out of the electric ice maker and it stopped.but i think you are on the right track to what the problem is.

  2. the defrost water is the answer the drain line is blocked, remove the bottom bin in the freezer and look to the bottom back wall. GE ref to drain hole can be seen without removing any panels. Remove the ice from the drain area and put hot water in the drain and use your finger like a plunger. The water will go to a pan under the box or on top of the compressor. Your saying about the ice slab in the freezer gives it away good job!

  3. You might check to make sure you door is sealing tight when closed.  If you are losing the cooled air in the freezer then certainly condensation can begin to collect and this could contribute to the water you are seeing.  Check the seal around your entire door for starters.  Good Luck!
