Side effects versus inter-dose withdrawal (please read on)...?

Question

If certain sxs associated with, say, a short-acting benzo or hypnotic, can be a function of inter-dose withdrawal but are also listed as a potential side effect, how are "side effects" distinguished from "inter-dose withdrawal"?
