Side view mirrors?

are your side view mirrors on your car set to see the things on the SIDE of your car, or what's behind you?

I have set my mirrors on my car so that objects come out of the rear view mirror, and go into the side view mirror...and I'm told this is WRONG.

What RIGHT?

  1. You are. Your mirrors should be adjusted so that the combination of your right and left mirrors combined with your inside rear-view mirror provide you with a panorama of what is behind and next to you with little or no blind spots. Who told you this is wrong?

  2. you will need more mirrors.. i will explain.. on your side mirrors.. you have a blind spot.. there is a small circular mirror that you place on the inside edge of the mirror.. this is called the blind spot mirror.. this is a safety issue.. they are only about one dollar each... also if you are going to change lanes.. allways turn your head a leittle to the left or right your peroferical vision will let you see someone in that blind spot... also speaking of blind spots.. allways come to a complete stop.. any one in the front blind spot will appear.. lots of accidents because of blind spots. ok gilermo.

  3. the side mirrors are so you can see the lane beside your vehicle, left side mirror and if you have the right side mirror it also should see the right side lane.the rear view mirror is to see behind you and the side mirrors are to see on both sides,i am a driver instructor for semi's so i should be knowledgeable in this situation.hoped this helped....

  4. To see things on the sides of your vehicle...

  5. Properly set,  your sideview mirrors should show you the area from the back corner of your car out.    If you stand a broom handle up at the outside edge of your bumper,  you should be able to see this in the inside edge of your mirror view.

Still,  as noted above,  there are blind spots that your mirrors can't cover.  It is for this reason that you are supposed to turn your head and check these blind spots when changing lanes.   Too many rely only on the mirrors,  and cause accidents in this manner.    Better,  when passing,   know it is safe to move over only when you can see BOTH headlights of the smaller vehicle in your rear view mirror.   This assures you have left a bit of distance between you.
