  1. No.  Sidekicks are GSM phones which require sim cards in order to work.  Verizon's phones and network are CDMA, which doesn't use sim cards.  They are two completely different technologies and are not compatible with each other.

As for Verizon opening their network up, you can still only use CDMA phones with Verizon.  You can't use a GSM phone on a CDMA network, or a CDMA phone on a GSM network.

EDIT: Here are a couple of articles for you on Verizon opening their network.  http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/11/28/ver...

  2. Well firstly the Sidekick is designed soley for T-Mobile. You're right in that any phone can technically be unlocked to work on another network. However T-Mobile is a GSM network. WHich is the new global standard. So is AT&T. But networks like Verizon and Sprint care CDMA networks and their phones cannot be unlocked. Verizon did say they were going to open their network but they said that as a long term plan. As in it won't happen until 2015 as their plan is going for since they plan on becoming a GSM network from 2010-2011. So basically, no. You can only use a Sidekick on a GSM network even if it's unlocked.
