Sidney Crosby's return and what it means for the Pittsburgh Penguins -NHL Match Update
We all know now that Sidney Crosby is preparing to make his 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, November 21, 2011, in their matchup against the New York Islanders, but what effect will it have
on the team still remains a question.
At the moment, Pittsburgh Penguins stand at the 4th number spot in the Eastern Conference with 25 points and a record of 11-6-3, making them one of the highest ranked teams in the league.
Having him back on the team could play out in a number of ways, which will obviously be positive, since the Penguins have seen much better days with Crosby on the line-up instead of having him sitting out.
The 24-year-old will be playing his first game of the regular season ever since he was injured with a severe concussion on January 5th, earlier this year, after continuous hits on the head during two matchups.
The concussion epidemic has seriously brought pressure on the league, but there is also joy that the former first overall pick will finally be returning to the team and playing hockey in front of the fans once again.
"Our whole team has bought into a system, and we've been playing it well," Pittsburgh’s left wing Chris Kunitz said. "Even though you're losing great players – I mean, you can't replace them – but guys who are filling in are doing their little bit that they
can to try and help this team. We've been fortunate enough to have some guys be able to score some goals early, like Nealer and Stallsy, when he's in the lineup, and Geno comes back and plays great.
At the moment, Pittsburgh is on a two-game losing streak by having lost the previous two to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1, and Florida Panthers, 3-2. The difference the Penguins will feel when Crosby will be playing again is something that can be noticed
quite easily.
Seeing Sidney Crosby back on the ice was one of the most anticipated events discussed about during the 2011 NHL offseason and now, it is finally coming true as fans will have the next three games of the Penguins to see at home.
