Sidney Crosby suffering soft-tissue injury and when he might be back -NHL Special
As many had thought before that Sidney Crosby had a fracture in his neck, it luckily turned out to be much less of a threat than that as the star and Pittsburgh Penguins’ general manager, Ray Shero, announced on Tuesday night, January 31, 2012, that the
player was suffering from a soft-tissue injury.
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain, Sidney Crosby, had been visiting specialists in the field of concussions and such injuries to find out in depth what might the issue be for his reoccurring post-concussion symptoms.
Recent medical tests by an independent specialist revealed that Crosby was not suffering from a neck fracture, as suspected before, but rather a tissue injury.
Fortunately, there was one good aspect about this revelation which was that the soft-tissue injury is treatable and will result in an easy recovery with the passage of time, but if this is causing the post-concussion symptoms that Crosby faces from time-to-time,
is still the question that remains to be answered.
"Maybe this is an issue that is causing some of these problems and, if we get that under control, that would be great news," Penguins’ general manager, Ray Shero, said.
For Crosby, it was an optimistic moment as he plans on relieving himself of the injury and returning back to hockey action as soon as he gets medical clearance.
"From what I've been told, this is something pretty commonly linked with concussion symptoms, and in a way that's encouraging. There's no magic to get rid of it but, if this is contributing, this is something we can obviously treat and work on and hopefully
it will go away," Sidney Crosby said.
Facing multiple hits targeted to his head back in January of 2011, Crosby was diagnosed with a season ending concussion, which once again arose as he attempted to make his comeback this 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, but it was short
lived.
He missed 41 games of the 2010-2011 regular season, including the playoffs which had his team vulnerable and ousted in the first round of the postseason after putting up a tough fight without two of their top players, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
The positive point for Pittsburgh’s team at the moment is that they have Evgeni Malkin healthy right now, giving them a ray of hope of making it big this time around.
Getting Crosby back sooner than later would mean outright success for the Penguins as the duo is one of the best in the history of the NHL.
Currently, Pittsburgh is sitting at number five in the Eastern Conference with 62 points, slightly ahead of the Ottawa Senators and looking forward to taking over the top spots in the upcoming days.
"I just want to get back out there and I'm trying to do everything I can to do that," Crosby said.
Having played only eight games this season, Crosby has registered 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists) so far. He certainly is trying to make a comeback as soon as possible, but compromising on his health is not a risk he can take.
Most are of the view that Crosby will be making a comeback later on in the year, maybe even close to the playoffs which could be perfect timing in terms of giving Pittsburgh Penguins a major boost.
