Sidney’s Candy zipped through his morning work at Churchill Downs for trainer Todd Pletcher
The Todd Pletcher trained Sidney’s Candy had to wait a bit to turn in his Churchill Downs workout because majority of the Breeders’ Cup contenders are currently stabled at Churchill Downs.
Though many of the runners completed their works over the weekend and there was not much activity over the training tracks, but late arrivers like Stay Thirsty and Uncle Mo, who are also trained by Todd Pletcher, had the opportunity to test the track later
on.
The Rubio B. Stable and WinStar Farm owned, 4-year-old colt Sidney’s Candy is coming off a third place finish in the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland on 8 October, 2011, under jockey Joel Rosario.
Sidney’s Candy couldn’t do much about the awesomeness which the race reeled in, with the likes of Gio Ponti, Get Stormy who also were the top two finishers in the race, respectively.
The winning time for the winner Gio Ponti was 1 minute and 34.17 seconds, as Sidney’s Candy finished off a few lengths adrift in third.
The son of Candi Ride, out of Fair Exchange by Storm Cat, Sidney’s Candy was up for the 25 October morning move at Churchill Downs and he closed out the morning move by working half a mile on grass.
Initially, Sidney’s Candy went four furlongs in 50.84 seconds. The workout was on turf and when Sidney’s Candy broke out, the ground was holding up a bit because of the amount of water still on the ground. Though, the track was rated firm before the workout.
It was a mild start for Sidney’s Candy, as he broke out at a very relaxed pace and started building up as he went. He seemed pretty warmed up as he went past the half mile marker closing in the opening quarter mile with the time of 27.41 seconds.
Bred by Jenny Craig and Sidney Craig, Sidney’s Candy picked up the pace when he was to exit the far turn into the stretch, where he covered a quick final quarter mile in 23.43 seconds and then later galloped out five eighths in 1 minute and 3.37 seconds.
Trainer Todd Pletcher has pre entered Sidney’s Candy in both races, the Breeders’ Cup Mile and also the Dirt Mile.
