The 22-year-old has insisted that his side must claim all three points in the Klassieker if they are to defend the Eredivisie title successfully.
Ajax Amsterdam midfielder-c*m-forward, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Siem-de-Jong-c33482, has insisted that his side must defeat their arch-rivals Feyenoord Rotterdam if they are to defend the Eredivisie title successfully at the end of the ongoing campaign.
The Amsterdammers will lock horns against the Rotterdammers at De Kuip Stadion on Sunday, January 29.
The 22-year-old, who can play either in an attacking midfielder role as well as a centre-forward, returned to action last week in the 1-1 draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar after remaining on the sidelines since November. The Dutch International sustained a thigh injury
in his side’s 6-4 defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Utrecht-c39237 on November 6.
De Jong is now completely fit and looking confident that his side can successfully lift the Eredivisie title this term as well. However, he has insisted that his side must emerge victorious in the Klassieker.
“Matches between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 and Ajax are games that you always want to win. But now it is really important. We need the three points on Sunday to keep the title race alive. Then we must build some momentum and hope the competition drop points”, De Jong was
quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The Dutch ace then went on to reveal that he still remembers his first appearance against the Rotterdammers when he was 18 years old in November 2007 at De Kuip Stadion.
“I came on and scored after just a few minutes to make it 2-1 for Ajax. Unfortunately, that was not enough and the game ended 2-2”, De Jong concluded.
The 22-year-old, who started his career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2007/08 season, has thus far represented the Amsterdam giants in 97 matches and managed to hit the back of the net on 27 occasions.
He would be hoping to perform at his best in the upcoming encounter against the Rotterdammers and help his side claim all three points. The first meeting between the two sides this term ended in a 1-1 stalemate at Amsterdam Arena.
